HMEMSA is a non-profit corporation registered in the state of Virginia. www.hmemsa.net

HMEMSA, a young Moroccan American network for education will be engaging the community for educational resources, projects and ideas. Global Education at George Mason University will be hosting the event.

The term HMEMSA, in Morocco, represents an endearing term meaning little garbanzo, or little chickpea. In English, it stands for Home of the Moroccan Educators and Moroccan Students in America. As such, HMEMSA's mission is to serve the Moroccan students and Moroccan educators in America through networking and access to relevant information. We believe that forging a new path is not enough; only by lighting the way for others can we claim to have arrived.

In this presentation, we will discuss the goals of HMEMSA and the projects that are underway to achieve those goals. In addition, we will open the floor to attendees to provide feedback and suggestions on how HMEMSA can improve and go forward.
The first hour will consist of presentations that will introduce HMEMSA and ongoing educational projects by Moroccan American educators and students. The second hour will be planned for an open discussion whose goal is to engage the community for educational resources, projects, and ideas.

Mr. Amine Chigani introduced HMEMSA and its educational goals in the US and Morocco including supporting projects ranging from energy to healthcare. Mr. Chigani explained that HMEMSA's main purpose was to ease the transition to the US system and to provide relevant information to the Moroccan educators and students. HMEMSA also planned to play an important role in networking between the Moroccan American Educators in the US and Morocco. The feedback from the audience was generally very positive and very supportive. There were many Moroccan green card holders in attendance and they were very interested in the initiative. Some of them did not have the English level required by colleges yet and some of them were already pursuing their degrees. HMEMSA collected their contact info so that more information can be shared with them. Finally most of the discussion revolved around the topics that HMEMSA planned to covers in its workshop. Since this first event, HMEMSA has conducted two other workshops: one regarding successful enrollment in Colleges [1] and the other one was regarding renewable energy in Morocco [2].
